Local sources reported that an armed cell suspected of affiliation with ISIS carried out an armed attack targeting Kurdish Asayish forces late on Sunday night, 8 February 2026, in the city of Hasakah, within the Rojava region (northern Syria).
According to the sources, the attack resulted in the injury of one member of the Asayish forces from the Vanguard Regiment. Security forces subsequently launched an operation to pursue the cell’s members, who fled toward the Khushman neighborhood, where the operation led to their arrest.
As the interim authority’s forces, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), began a military offensive against areas previously controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Kurdish regions, local Kurdish authorities in Rojava issued decisions imposing a curfew from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m.
Hasakah is experiencing heightened security tensions, coinciding with the transfer by U.S. forces of ISIS detainees from detention centers run by the Syrian Democratic Forces to Iraq. This comes amid an escalating media campaign targeting Kurds and Kurdish forces, led by social media accounts and Gulf-based media outlets, which are disseminating misinformation and hate speech, contributing to increased polarization between Kurds and Arabs in the region.
