The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that its forces stationed on the banks of the Euphrates River near the al-Ashara Bridge in the town of Darnaj in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor came under direct attack by armed groups affiliated with the Damascus government.
In an official statement, the SDF said: “At nine o’clock this morning, Sunday, September 14, 2025, our forces… came under direct attack… while they were securing the passage of groups of smugglers across the river.”
The SDF added in its statement: “Our forces have begun taking the necessary field measures to deal with the attack, and developments are still ongoing at the time of writing this statement.” The forces affirmed their commitment to protecting the security and stability of the areas under their control, indicating the Damascus government’s responsibility for the attack. The statement read: “We affirm our commitment to protecting the security and stability of our regions, and we stress the full responsibility of the Damascus government for this targeting and the cover provided by its elements for smuggling operations that undermine the stability of the region.”
