The death toll from an attack targeting a bus carrying engineers and workers employed by the “Al-Mateen” company on the Masyaf Bridge near the Al-Houla area in the Homs countryside has risen to eight after one of the injured succumbed to his wounds, while four others remain injured.
The bus was targeted on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026, while carrying engineers and workers hailing from the village of Fahel and surrounding villages, all belonging to the Alawite community.
Local sources suggested that the bus was subjected to gunfire after passing through a security checkpoint in an Alawite village, pointing out that armed individuals were waiting for it and set up an ambush targeting the vehicle.
According to the latest figures, the death toll rose to eight following the death of young man Ibrahim Ghassan Ibrahim, from the village of Al-Shaniyah, who died from his injuries.
The list of those killed includes:
Ayman Najm Afarah (bus driver)
Ahmad Hammad
Nour Nasser
Hassan Ma’mari (all three from the village of Fahel)
Sulaiman Amir Al-Qasim and his brother Maymoon Amir Al-Qasim (from the village of Al-Shaniyah)
Majd Nizami (from the village of Al-Mahfoorah)
Ibrahim Ghassan Ibrahim (from the village of Al-Shaniyah, who died of his injuries)
As for the four injured individuals, those identified include Ja’far Al-Saleh and Ibrahim Mossa from the village of Fahel, in addition to Agheed Nasr from the village of Otan, who belongs to the Christian faith.
The incident comes within a highly sensitive security context in Syria’s coastal and central regions, particularly following violent events witnessed in the governorates of Homs, Hama, Lattakia, Tartous, and other areas, during which large numbers of civilians lost their lives—primarily from the Alawite community, alongside victims from other sects.
