Media sources reported that lawyer Malik al-Juyush was arrested nine days ago by the Syrian Interim Authorities. No official announcement has been made regarding the reasons for his arrest or his whereabouts, and his family has not been allowed to contact him.
Al-Juyush was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Syriatel at the end of last year, having previously served as Senior Legal Advisor at MTN. Al-Juyush holds a Master’s degree in International and European Commercial Law from a British university.
Al-Juyush’s arrest coincides with the decision to dismiss lawyer Mohammed al-Issa from his position as judicial guardian of MTN, according to the same sources.
