The Health Authority in Kobani Warns of a Health Disaster Amid Disease Outbreak and Medicine Shortages

Statement:

The Health Authority in the city of Kobani has warned of an impending health disaster as a result of the siege, the spread of diseases, and the depletion of essential medicines, confirming that more than 950 people have been infected with cases of intestinal inflammation, diarrhea, and food poisoning.

In this regard, the administration of Kobani Hospital stated that cases of intestinal infections and poisoning have recently increased significantly due to the use of untreated well water, following the disruption of drinking water supplies caused by the siege imposed on the city by factions affiliated with the Damascus government for more than two weeks.

From a medical standpoint, the hospital administration noted that they are also facing a humanitarian crisis due to a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies at the hospital, amid the ongoing siege on Kobani.

The administration further indicated that after several clinics went out of service due to attacks on the area, and with thousands of residents displaced from the countryside to the city, the hospital is currently under immense pressure in receiving patients and emergency cases.

The administration called for lifting the siege and allowing medical supplies and medicines to enter Kobani, urging consideration of the humanitarian situation of civilians, warning that otherwise the situation will become catastrophic.
