Demonstrators raise slogans in solidarity with Daraa and Quneitra, amid ongoing tensions in the neighborhood and Kurdish fears regarding the repercussions of field developments.
A demonstration featuring a group of local residents took place today, Friday, in the Al-Ghawiran neighborhood of Hasakah city in northeastern Syria, protesting against Israeli interventions in the Daraa and Quneitra governorates, amid ongoing tensions in the area following successive field and security developments.
Participants raised slogans in solidarity with Daraa and Quneitra, while a widely circulated video showed one protester directing threats at Israel, saying: “To the criminal Zionists, by God, you will not stand before us for 5 minutes if we reach you; we will have lunch in the middle of Tel Aviv.”
This demonstration comes amid ongoing tensions in the Al-Ghawiran neighborhood, particularly on Fridays, following the control of the Arab neighborhood by General Security forces affiliated with the Al-Sharaa government, after the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the return of pro-Turkish armed men from the neighborhood, amid Kurdish fears over evolving conditions.
On October 9, 2026, Hasakah city witnessed rapid field developments coinciding with crowds of protesters marching out of the predominantly Arab Al-Ghawiran neighborhood, amid security alerts and strict measures aimed at curbing the movement of these crowds toward predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods.
On October 13, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) documented the participation of children under the age of 18 at the forefront of the movements in the neighborhood, alongside the blocking of the road at Al-Bassel Roundabout, amidst a security deployment and an atmosphere of tension and anticipation.
Footage and photos monitored by the Observatory revealed a notable presence of children leading the gatherings, several of whom were carrying flags and banners alongside a limited number of adults, with pictures captured of the children taking part in the activities.
These developments followed calls for demonstrations in front of the Grand Mosque in Al-Ghawiran after the afternoon prayer, coinciding with the destroying and throwing of Kurdish symbols, flags, and photos—as well as others linked to the Autonomous Administration—onto the ground and into the trash.
