Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani discusses regional developments in phone call with U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Syria

Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani held a phone call on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with Tom Barrack, U.S. President Trump’s Special Envoy for Syria and the United States Ambassador to Turkey, during which they discussed political developments in the region as well as the latest updates and changes in Syria.

A statement issued by President Barzani’s official website noted that the call included an exchange of views and perspectives on overall regional developments. Both sides agreed on the need to continue taking all necessary steps to prevent tensions, unrest, and acts of fighting, and to work toward achieving peace and consolidating stability in the region.

The statement explained that both parties expressed mutual appreciation during the call for the influential role each has played in efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The statement added that President Barzani, while expressing his appreciation and high regard for the role of the United States, stressed the importance of maintaining and continuing the existing alliance between the people of Kurdistan and the United States.
