SDF Arrest ISIS Members in Security Operation South of Raqqa

Raqqa, Syria – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces announced today the execution of a joint security operation that resulted in the arrest of five members of ISIS terrorist cells in the “Al-Kasrat” area, south of Raqqa city, on Tuesday.

The statement issued by the Syrian Democratic Forces clarified that the operation, carried out by the Special Operations Teams (TOL) affiliated with the SDF and the Counter-Terrorism Forces (HAT) of the Internal Security Forces, followed the collection of precise intelligence regarding the activities and movements of the organization’s cells. The statement confirmed that the operation “proceeded according to the planned strategy,” enabling the joint forces to apprehend the terrorist elements.

The statement noted that these elements were preparing to launch attacks on SDF positions in the area, in addition to targeting civilians and service institutions, and carrying out assassinations and bombings aimed at “undermining the security and stability of our regions,” exploiting the state of security chaos in other Syrian areas.

The Syrian Democratic Forces affirmed their commitment to “pursuing the terrorist organization’s cells, drying up their sources, and striking their material and morale foundations with force” to maintain the security and safety of the areas under their control. The forces participating in the operation also confiscated a quantity of weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment.

This announcement comes in the wake of thwarting a suicide attack carried out by one of ISIS’s cells, which the Syrian Democratic Forces successfully countered, prompting them to intensify their security operations to dismantle the organization’s cells in the region.
