Sources Reveal Horrific Rape and Murder of Women in Sweida City, Syria

Reliable sources revealed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights details of a horrific rape and murder incident in the city of Sweida, east of the al-Koum neighborhood. The sources reported that three women, a mother and three of her daughters, including a young girl, were raped before being killed.

The incident was discovered on July 17, after the transitional government forces withdrew from the city.

The sources also reported that 12 other members of the same family, including eight women and girls—including those who were raped before being killed—and an elderly man, were killed in various ways, including direct gunfire at close range, and some executed inside a car.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called for an independent international investigation to identify those responsible for these crimes and hold them accountable in accordance with international law.
