The Kurdish opposition Komala Party in Iran has denied the existence of any serious contacts with Washington at the present time regarding participation in the confrontation against Iran.
In a statement to Sky News Arabia, the party’s Secretary-General, Reza Kaabi, confirmed that when conditions become favorable, the Iranian Kurdish opposition will seize the opportunity in the interest of its people.
The Secretary-General of the Iranian Kurdish opposition Komala Party described the alliance relationship between Kurdish parties and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq as good, stressing respect for the region’s laws and regulations.
Kaabi said: “The Kurdish movement has its own strength, and in pursuit of its interests it has the right to take advantage of circumstances.”
He added: “Our relationship with the West is now stronger, whereas the government’s relationship with the West used to be stronger in the past. Therefore, we have the right to strengthen ourselves so that we can rid ourselves of the mullahs’ regime.”
The number of Kurds in Iran is estimated at around 8 to 10 million people (approximately 10 percent of the population). They are mainly concentrated in mountainous areas in the west and northwest of the country (Kurdistan, Kermanshah, West Azerbaijan, and Ilam).
Most of them are Sunni Muslims and constitute the third largest ethnic group in Iran. They also have a long history of protests and demands for rights and self-rule.
