U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he does not want the Kurds to launch an attack on Iran, in remarks to journalists aboard the presidential aircraft.
Trump said on Saturday: “We are not looking for the Kurds to participate. Our relationship with them is very friendly, as you know, but we do not want to complicate the war more than it already is.”
He added: “Yes, I have ruled that out. I do not want the Kurds to participate. I do not want to see the Kurds injured or killed. We have a good relationship with them, and they are ready to participate, but I told them that I do not want them to take part. The war is complicated enough without bringing the Kurds into it.”

Earlier in the day, Turkey warned against attempts to ignite a civil war in Iran. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said: “We oppose all scenarios aimed at igniting a civil war in Iran by exploiting ethnic or religious divisions.”
This comes after the U.S. president told Reuters on Thursday that he would be fully supportive of a potential attack by Iranian Kurdish fighters amid the U.S.–Israeli war on Iran.
Earlier, sources told CNN that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is working to “spark an uprising” in Iran by arming Kurdish forces. They indicated that the Trump administration had been holding intensive talks with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq regarding providing them with military support.
