The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee will hold an official and open hearing on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to discuss the future of Syria and U.S. policy in the post–Bashar al-Assad phase, at the direction of the committee’s chair.
The hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Washington time in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building (RHOB). It is titled Syria at a Crossroads: Challenges for U.S. Policy After Assad and will be available for live streaming on the committee’s official website.
The session will feature a group of senior experts, diplomats, and researchers specializing in Syrian affairs, the Middle East, and religious freedom. Among the witnesses are former U.S. Ambassador James F. Jeffrey, Philip Solondz Fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and Andrew J. Tabler, Martin J. Gross Senior Fellow at the same institute.
Also participating are Nadine Maenza, former Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and Dr. Mara Karlin, Professor of Practice at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Organizers noted that the list of witnesses may be amended or expanded as the hearing proceeds.
