On Thursday, May 8, 2025, a delegation from the Kurdistan–France Friendship Association, headed by the association’s honorary president Sylvie Jan, visited the Department of Foreign Relations in the city of Qamishlo.
The delegation also included Émilie Luc, an elected city council member from the Seine-Saint-Denis district, and Michel Laurent, a director in the department of international projects.
They were received by the Co-Deputy Chairs of the Foreign Relations Department, Kullistan Ali and Rubel Baho.
The meeting addressed the political situation in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime, the experience of the Autonomous Administration, and the vital role of women in rebuilding a new Syria. The discussion highlighted how the experience of women in North and East Syria can serve as a model for all Syrian women. According to a statement from the Department of Foreign Relations
The leadership of the department emphasized “the prominent role of women in North and East Syria in drafting the Social Contract, which includes a special law protecting and safeguarding women’s rights.”
For her part, Sylvie Jan stated: “We are here to express our support for the Kurdish people, Kurdish women, and the peoples of the region. Your struggle and activism against ISIS and terrorism are an inspiration to many individuals and women around the world.”
Jan added that the delegation “will visit various women’s institutions across different fields, as well as environmental centers, to listen to their views and discuss them in France, with the aim of building new forms of cooperation between us.”
