In a statement issued on August 12, 2026, the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) mourned the two martyrs, Artish Hassan and Shahin Suleiman, who “rose to martyrdom in the face of terrorism” while performing their duty to protect their people and land.
The statement explained that Artish Hassan joined the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces in 2012 and participated in the campaign to liberate Ras al-Ayn (Sere Kaniye) in 2012, as well as various campaigns and battles against terrorism and occupation—despite being wounded twice—before joining the ranks of the Syrian Army as part of the integration agreement. It also noted that Shahin Suleiman had recently joined the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces before transferring to the Syrian Army under the same framework.
The General Command affirmed that the sacrifices of the two martyrs will remain present in the conscience of the people and their comrades, stressing that “the blood of the martyrs will remain a trust upon our necks,” and renewing its pledge to continue working to protect the people and the land, and to preserve the unity of society.
On August 11, the Director of Military Media for the Eastern Region, Halzwar Mitani, reported the martyrdom of two fighters and the injury of two others from the Qamishlo Brigade, following an armed attack targeting their checkpoint in the village of Taweil Harb in the countryside of Qamishlo, Western Kurdistan (“Rojava”).
He explained that “an outlawed group launched the attack on the checkpoint before the fighters repelled it,” noting that operations to track down those involved and take the necessary measures against them are ongoing.
The attack came hours after threats were issued by Khader Abu Haitham, the commander of the Tribal Forces in southern Hasakah, who wrote: “By Almighty God, I long to fight the SDF more than anyone, but as for the battle, by Almighty God, when its time comes, we will not delay it.”
