The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that U.S. forces fully withdrew on the afternoon of Saturday, March 14, 2026, from the Kharab al-Jir Airbase in the countryside of Rmeilan, north of al-Hasakah, and handed it over to a committee from the Ministry of Defense of the Transitional Government, the General Security Service affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government, and military and security forces from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are set to integrate with the forces of the Transitional Government, after burning their headquarters and destroying old ammunition at the base.
On February 5, activists from the Observatory had also monitored a convoy of the International Coalition leaving its base in the town of al-Shaddadi, south of al-Hasakah, heading toward the Iraqi border, where the base was evacuated and subsequently closed. Strong explosions were also heard in the southern countryside of al-Hasakah since the morning of that day, while sources confirmed that the International Coalition forces had blown up their base in the town of al-Shaddadi before departing the site, coinciding with the presence of warplanes flying over the area.
