U.S. Senator Chris Coons affirmed that Kurdish forces in Syria have, for years, been among the United States’ most effective partners in combating the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS), stressing the necessity of continued U.S. support for them as part of efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East.
In a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter), Coons said:
Our Kurdish allies in Syria have for years been among our most effective partners in combatting the Islamic State. The United States must continue to stand with our Kurdish partners as we pursue peace in the Middle East.

Earlier, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham also emphasized that the United States is making intensive efforts to maintain stability in Syria and prevent the outbreak of a new wave of violence, warning of the risks facing Kurds in the northeast of the country and stressing that Congress is prepared to act in their defense.
In a series of posts on X, Graham explained that he had recently held discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing his appreciation for their efforts aimed at achieving stability in Syria. He noted that the actions of the U.S. administration have begun to yield results, at least in the short term.
The Republican senator pointed out that the U.S. administration is directly engaged in the Syrian file with the goal of replacing chaos with stability, calling on regional partners to support President Trump’s message prioritizing stability and an end to fighting. He also praised the direct role played by the Secretary of State in this context.
Graham warned that neither the region nor the world can withstand “another bloodbath” in northeastern Syria, affirming that Kurds are facing a direct threat from the new Syrian government allied with Turkey. He added that abandoning the Kurds—who were the United States’ primary ally in defeating ISIS—would constitute a disaster for America’s reputation and its security interests.
In this context, Graham announced his intention to introduce new legislation titled the “Save the Kurds Act,” aimed at imposing severe sanctions on any government or entity that participates in hostile actions against the Kurds, noting that the anticipated bill enjoys broad bipartisan support from both Republicans and Democrats.
