Nechirvan Barzani: Kurdistan Region Will Not Be Part of Any Conflict or Military Escalation

Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, affirmed that the region will not be part of any conflict or military escalation that threatens the safety of its people, according to a statement issued on Thursday marking the 35th anniversary of the March 1991 Uprising.

In the statement, Barzani extended his congratulations to the families of the martyrs, the Peshmerga forces, and all Kurdistani people on the anniversary.

He said: “Today, we proudly commemorate the 35th anniversary of the March 1991 Uprising. On this occasion, I extend my deepest congratulations to the families of our martyrs, the valiant Peshmerga forces, and all Kurdistani people, wherever they may be. We bow our heads in reverence to the souls of those who gave their lives in the uprising, and to all the martyrs of Kurdistan.”

Barzani noted that the uprising represented a turning point in the history of Kurdistan and a determined reaction by the people against oppression in pursuit of freedom and prosperity.

He added: “The uprising marked a pivotal moment and a resolute reaction from the people of Kurdistan against oppression, steering towards freedom and prosperity.”

The president also pointed out that the anniversary comes at a time when the region is experiencing a complex and sensitive situation, stressing the responsibility of all parties to maintain peace and stability in the Kurdistan Region.

He said: “This sacred anniversary arrives during a period when the region faces a complex and delicate situation. The rising tensions and adverse effects of the conflict impose a significant responsibility on all of us to uphold peace and stability within the Kurdistan Region.”

Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region will remain a pillar of peace and will not participate in any conflict or military escalation that could endanger the lives and security of its people.

He stressed: “On this occasion, we reaffirm that the Kurdistan Region will consistently serve as a cornerstone of peace and will not engage in any conflict or military escalation that jeopardizes the lives and security of our people.”

According to the statement, Barzani emphasized that preserving the constitutional status and achievements of the Kurdistan Region requires unity and solidarity among all political parties and components of Kurdistan.

He said: “Safeguarding the status of the Kurdistan Region and our constitutional achievements can only be realized through unity, solidarity, and a collective national responsibility among all political parties and communities in Kurdistan.”

Barzani also called for drawing inspiration from the anniversary to overcome challenges and strengthen coexistence and tolerance.

He added: “May this anniversary inspire us to surmount challenges and enhance the culture of coexistence and tolerance. Honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs means cooperating and working together; striving to ensure stability and construct a brighter future for our upcoming generations.”

The statement concluded with Barzani saluting the anniversary of the uprising and wishing peace and stability for Kurdistan.
