Al-Sharaa Discusses Completion of SDF Integration and Return of Displaced Persons with Abdi

Syrian official media reported that President Ahmad al-Sharaa received the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, and Kurdish official Ilham Ahmed. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Ziad al-Ayesh, the Presidential Envoy for the implementation of the January 29 agreement with the SDF, to discuss completing the integration process into state institutions.

In the same context, Ahmed al-Hilali, spokesperson for the presidential team monitoring the implementation of the January 29 agreement, revealed details of an expanded meeting held yesterday via a post on his “Facebook” account. The meeting included Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the Governor of Aleppo Azzam al-Gharib, the Commander of Internal Security in Aleppo Province Colonel Mohammad Abdul Ghani, and Presidential Envoy Brigadier General Ziad al-Ayesh. The officials conducted an in-depth discussion on several fundamental files.

Al-Hilali explained that “at the forefront of these files was the return of displaced persons and refugees, as it is a humanitarian priority, alongside discussing the integration path and its implementation mechanisms to ensure the restoration of stability and the strengthening of the presence of state institutions.”

He added: “The leadership is keen to address these issues within a clear national framework. In this context, President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with Mr. Mazloum Abdi and Ms. Ilham Ahmed, in the presence of His Excellency the Foreign Minister and the Presidential Envoy. The meeting confirmed that the integration process and the handling of the SDF file is a sovereign national path managed within state institutions in a manner that preserves the country’s unity.”

He noted that “the current phase requires clarity of vision and acceleration in implementation, which is what we are working on directly to transform these discussions into tangible results on the ground.”

Al-Hilali also pointed out that “pivotal strategic files were discussed during the meeting, with the return of displaced persons at the top of our priorities, in addition to establishing practical mechanisms for integration paths that guarantee citizens’ rights and restore the active role of state institutions.”

He concluded by saying: “Work is ongoing, and the vision is clear: our goal is a homeland that accommodates all its children under the umbrella of the law.”
