Media sources in Beirut reported on October 25, 2026, the discovery of the body of 36-year-old Syrian youth Ali Aqil, a member of the Alawite sect, who was killed in the Lebanese capital. The sources noted that his body arrived at Baabda Governmental Hospital amid a lack of clear details regarding the circumstances of his assassination.

Aqil hails from the village of Ain Al-Karum in the Al-Ghab region of the Hama countryside and resided in the Saqoubin area of Latakia city, where he lived a normal life until recently. He was known for his civil activity on social media platforms before he stopped posting about two years ago.

During his service in the army of the former Syrian regime, Aqil’s activity on social media gained prominence, and he also took part in the battles of Eastern Ghouta in 2018. He later published criticism of the Assad regime, particularly following the arrest of his brother and his exposure to severe torture in prison.

Commenting on the incident, journalist Waheed Yazbek spoke in a Facebook post about Aqil being subjected to a campaign of incitement, stating that he had remained in Syria, settled his legal status, and taken a positive stance toward the current authority. However, he noted that “Tamer Turkmani, Shazar Al-Zoabi, Abu Haider Jawwiya, Anas Habra,” and others continued to incite against him.

Yazbek added that Aqil had left for Lebanon, mentioning that he was killed the previous day in the Hadath area near Baabda, and alleged that the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon is behind operations of assassination, liquidation, and kidnapping in the country.

He also mentioned that months ago, Aqil had clarified that he had been summoned by the intelligence service of the current authority and underwent interrogation before being released.
