Scattered areas in Syria have seen a series of killings targeting civilians, including a doctor, an engineer and citizens, on sectarian backgrounds and in mysterious circumstances, according to local reports.

Prominent doctor killed in Aleppo
In the Jumailiya neighborhood of Aleppo city, Dr. Basil Zaino, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Human Medicine and Head of the Chest Department at the University of Aleppo, was killed in front of his clinic by an armed group. The reports described the attackers as a “terrorist group,” without providing additional details about their identity or motives.

An engineer was killed in the countryside of Hama
In the western countryside of Hama, the young Ali Mohsen Ibrahim, an engineer from the village of Bulus, was killed this morning, 2 September. According to local sources, Ibrahim went out yesterday evening to a house where he worked, before he lost contact at about 11 pm. This morning, the villagers found his body on the highway, with his motorcycle and personal belongings stolen. Ibrahim belongs to the Alawite sect.

Field execution in Homs countryside
In the countryside of Homs, Mr. Hassan Mahdi Al-Hajji, a Pentecostal citizen of the Shia community, was killed on the morning of 1 September by members of the General Security. Sources reported that Al-Hajji, nicknamed“Abu Ali,” was subjected to direct fire near a car wash he works for on the Tartous-Homs road opposite the village of Al-Mazra ‘ah, in an operation described as “field execution,” which led to his immediate death.

Killing of a Shiite citizen in HTS prisons
In another incident in the countryside of Homs, it was confirmed that Mr. Ali Ibrahim Khaddour, from the eastern village of Al-Buwayda Al-Salamiya, was killed in HTS prisons. Khaddour, a member of the Shia community, was arrested in January 2025 at the Ein al-Nisr checkpoint, accompanied by his cousin Hussein Khalil Kibra and his brother Ayyash Ibrahim Khaddour, whose fate remains unknown. Khaddour’s family discovered his name and photo in the register of victims killed in HTS prisons.
