The Anti-Terror Units (YAT) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out a security operation yesterday, Friday, targeting the dismantling of a cell belonging to the terrorist organization ISIS in the village of “Suweidan al-Jazeera” adjacent to the Euphrates River, in western Deir ez-Zor.
SDF stated in a statement that “the operation was conducted with air support from the international coalition forces, who surrounded the location of the terrorist cell and called for their surrender. However, the members of the terrorist cell did not respond and began firing at our fighters, prompting a reciprocal response, and a clash ensued, resulting in the killing of a responsible figure and leader of assassination cells known as ‘Abu Osama,’ in addition to the killing of one of his companions and the arrest of another terrorist.”
SDF’s statement added, “At the same time our forces were engaged in responding to the attacks from the regime forces and their mercenaries; ISIS attempted to exploit the opportunity and acted in an organized and coordinated manner with the regime forces, trying to activate its sleeper cells, attempting to carry out some terrorist acts to create a state of instability and undermine security in our safe areas.”
SDF seized the following weapons and equipment from the terrorist cell:
One smartphone.
Personal documents and identification.
One Glock pistol.
One Kalashnikov rifle.
