The Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S) has issued a statement regarding the abduction of Mr. Hassan Arafat Kalash, a member of the party’s Logical Council in Girkê Legê, Syrian Kurdistan, by unknown individuals. Below is the full text of the statement:

Statement

Comrade Hassan Arafat Kalash, born in 1970, a member of the Logical Council of our party (Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria) and an esteemed high school philosophy teacher, was subjected on Wednesday, September 30, at 10:00 PM, to a terrorist kidnapping in Girkê Legê by unknown perpetrators who took him to an undisclosed location. To date, no group has claimed responsibility for this abduction.

Such terrorist practices under these sensitive and critical circumstances undergoing Syria and the region constitute a blatant threat to the security and stability of citizens, as well as to the security of the entire region, causing deep anxiety and disgust. Consequently, the Syrian authorities—particularly local authorities—bear full responsibility for this disgraceful terrorist act and for what has happened to Comrade Hassan. We demand that security forces and other relevant authorities fulfill their duties and responsibilities in this regard, specifically by launching an investigation to uncover the facts of the event, arresting the kidnapping thieves, and subjecting them to the harshest punitive measures to serve as a deterrent to others.

We also call upon political forces, human rights committees, civil society organizations, and all relevant bodies to intervene immediately and exert pressure on the authorities to fulfill their role in this regard, aiming for the immediate release of Comrade Hassan Kalash and his return to his family, relatives, and his humanitarian work as an educator and teacher.

Any delay by the responsible authorities will only heighten anxiety and tension regarding the victim’s life and fuel motives for protest among his family, comrades, and the general public of the region.
