The President of the Kurdistan Region expresses solidarity with Jordan, while the Jordanian government confirms taking legal action against those involved in the attack that resulted in 6 deaths and 28 injuries, according to a provisional toll.
The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed his strong condemnation of the attack targeting a church in Karak Governorate in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, affirming his rejection of terrorism in all its forms, particularly attacks that target places of worship and civilians.
In a post published Friday on the platform “X”, Barzani stated: “We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that targeted a church in Karak Governorate in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which resulted in casualties and injuries among innocent civilians.”
He added: “We express our solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its leadership and people, and we reiterate our rejection and condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, especially the targeting of places of worship and civilians.”
Barzani also extended his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, and continuous security and stability for Jordan and its brotherly people.
Earlier on Friday, the Jordanian government announced that 6 people were killed and 28 others injured, in a provisional toll from the attack targeting the vicinity of the Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Humud in Karak Governorate.
The Jordanian News Agency (PETRA) quoted the Prime Minister, Dr. Jafar Hassan, confirming during a security meeting in Karak Governorate that the Kingdom will take the maximum legal measures against anyone who practices sedition or attempts to create an entry point for extremism within Jordanian society.
Hassan said: “This is the result of takfiri terrorist ideology and blind extremism, and we will not allow society to proceed along this path.”
He stressed that Jordanians will remain an “impenetrable barrier” against takfiri ideology, adding: “These misguided Khawarij have absolutely no place among us, nor is there any place in our country and society for anyone who cooperated with them.”
For his part, the Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, condemned what he described as a “cowardly terrorist act,” praying for mercy upon the souls of the martyrs who died in the attack, and offering his deepest condolences and sympathy to their families and loved ones, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Al-Momani affirmed that the blood of every Jordanian citizen is precious to all Jordanians, and that the lives, security, and safety of Jordanians are above all considerations, emphasizing that the crime represents an attack on the entirety of Jordan, and that its perpetrators do not reflect the values of Jordanian society and its brotherhood.
In the context of discussing the national fabric, Al-Momani emphasized that Christians are “an authentic and integral part of our national fabric and partners in Jordan’s history, present, and future,” pointing out that their presence is rooted in the history of this land, its identity, and its national narrative.
He stressed that “any attack on any Jordanian, regardless of their religion or belief, is an attack on the whole of Jordanian society.”
Al-Momani concluded by assuring that the terrorist crime will not pass without holding accountable everyone standing behind it, emphasizing the government’s commitment to keeping Jordanians informed of all developments related to the attack.
