The Rojava Committee for Prisoners and the Missing announced that the number of missing persons stemming from events in North and East Syria and the city of Aleppo between January 6 and January 29, 2026, has reached 628. Meanwhile, the committee confirmed that 138 individuals are being held in Interim Government prisons across Idlib, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, Aleppo, Manbij, and Homs.
According to information obtained by Hawar News Agency from the committee, the issue of the missing is tied to the security and military developments that unfolded in those regions during the specified period.
The committee explained that this phase saw attacks targeting the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo city, as well as areas in North and East Syria, coinciding with the repositioning of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the Deir Hafer area, where forces encountered clashes while executing the redeployment.
The committee added that these events resulted in the capture of a number of fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces, Internal Security Forces, and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), emphasizing that the fate of hundreds of others remains unknown to date.
