The spokeswoman for the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) Media Center, Ruken Jamal, confirmed that negotiations with the Transitional Government are still ongoing within the framework of the January 29, 2026 agreement, noting that the units have not yet received any official proposal or decision regarding their future.
In a statement published on the official YPJ website today, Tuesday, Ruken Jamal stated that a delegation from the units held a meeting last April with the Transitional Government’s Minister of Defense, Murhaf Abu Qasra, during which they submitted a written draft outlining the units' vision and proposals.
She explained that proposals were put forward regarding the integration of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) as an independent counter-terrorism force within the Ministry of Interior; however, no clear decision has been reached on this matter so far.
She added that new meetings are scheduled to take place in the coming days between representatives of the units and officials in Damascus to continue discussing this issue.
Ruken Jamal emphasized that the Women's Protection Units will continue their struggle until a legal framework is secured that guarantees the protection of their legacy and status.
