The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, held an official meeting in the city of Erbil in the Kurdistan Region. The meeting brought together the Commander of the Women’s Protection Units, Rohlat Afrin, the Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Department of External Relations, Ilham Ahmed, and the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot.
According to the statement, the meeting discussed the means and mechanisms for implementing the January 29 agreement, with emphasis on the need for its full implementation. The participants also addressed the continuation of joint efforts to combat ISIS and the need to ensure the protection and security of detention facilities holding ISIS fighters and their families.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of protecting the particularity of Kurdish areas and safeguarding the rights of the Kurdish people in Syria. It also addressed the file of integrating military and security forces in all its details, including the Women’s Protection Units, in a manner that serves stability and security across the region.
For his part, the French Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s support for the implementation of the agreement, stressing the importance of this phase in enhancing stability and continuing the fight against terrorism.
In turn, the leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces renewed its commitment to implementing the January 29 agreement, continuing efforts to combat ISIS, and ensuring the security of detention facilities holding the group’s fighters and their families.
According to the statement, the SDF also stressed the necessity of the return of displaced persons to their areas, particularly in Afrin and Sere Kaniye, and underscored the importance of effective participation at the national level in a way that contributes to reaching a comprehensive political solution that guarantees the rights of all components of the Syrian people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces commended France’s positive role at this stage, noting its impact in supporting efforts toward peace and stability, according to the statement.
