The Counter-Terrorism Directorate in the Kurdistan Region announced on Saturday that forces of the international coalition led by the United States shot down missiles and drones believed to be Iranian.
In a statement, the directorate said that “coalition forces managed to intercept and shoot down a number of missiles and explosive-laden drones in the airspace of Erbil province, without recording any significant human or material losses.”
The international coalition base at Erbil International Airport came under several drone attacks earlier on Saturday.
US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday, 28 February 2026, that the United States had begun carrying out “major combat operations” inside Iran, coinciding with a wide-scale attack launched by Washington and Tel Aviv after weeks of American threats of military action and the mobilization of forces in the Middle East.
