U.S. Forces Depart Qasrak Base in Al-Hasakah Countryside, Heading to Jordan

Al-Hasakah – International Coalition forces have officially handed over the Qasrak military base in the Al-Hasakah countryside to the Eastern Region Command. This transfer follows a meeting held in Al-Hasakah city between Sipan Hamo, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Transitional Government, and leaders of the U.S. forces, according to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Based on available information, General Jia Kobani, Deputy Commander of the 60th Division, took command of the base after an agreement was reached to transfer responsibility to local forces as part of new field arrangements in the region. Sources indicate that U.S. forces have departed the base and are heading toward Jordan as part of a repositioning operation in the area.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had previously noted field preparations paving the way for the formal handover of the Qasrak base—located north of Al-Hasakah and formerly under International Coalition control—to the Eastern Region Command led by Sipan Hamo, the Deputy Minister of Defense for the Eastern Region.

This move comes within the context of recent maneuvers by the International Coalition to redeploy its forces in North and East Syria. These actions involve military repositioning alongside efforts to restructure local military forces.

Furthermore, these developments fall under ongoing efforts to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into organized military brigades and formations, subordinating them to the Ministry of Defense within the Transitional Government. This aligns with the new arrangements stemming from the January 29 agreement concluded between the two parties.

SOHR previously monitored the landing of an International Coalition military cargo plane at the Qasrak base on April 9. This marked the first such landing at the base since the outbreak of direct military escalation between Iran, Israel, and the United States in the region late last February.

On March 14, the Observatory also recorded the full withdrawal of U.S. forces from the Kharab al-Jir airport base in the Rmelan countryside, north of Al-Hasakah. The base was handed over to a committee from the Transitional Government’s Ministry of Defense and the General Security Service, as well as military and security forces from the SDF that have merged with the Transitional Government’s forces. This handover occurred after U.S. forces burned their headquarters and destroyed old ammunition within the base.
