Al-Sharaa Receives Kurdish Delegation at the People’s Palace on the Occasion of Nowruz

The Syrian President of the Transitional Authority, Ahmed al-Sharaa, received a Kurdish delegation at the People’s Palace in Damascus on Saturday on the occasion of Nowruz. The meeting was attended by the governors of Aleppo, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah, as well as the presidential envoy tasked with following up on the implementation of the January 29 Agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Presidency’s social media accounts posted:

“Mr. President Ahmed al-Sharaa received yesterday at the People’s Palace in Damascus a delegation of the Kurdish community on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz. The meeting was attended by the governors of Aleppo, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah, and the presidential envoy for the follow-up of the January 29 agreement with the ‘SDF’.”

Mr. President emphasized that Nowruz is a national holiday reflecting the distinct identity of the Kurdish component and that the Syrian people are one. He stressed that guaranteeing the rights of the Kurdish people is an inherent right and that cultural diversity in Syria represents a source of strength, noting his support for the development of the eastern region.

For their part, the attendees praised Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2026 aimed at guaranteeing Kurdish rights in Syria, emphasizing the importance of consolidating national unity, enhancing partnership, and ensuring that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state.

Earlier, the media office of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) stated: “A delegation from the Council, accompanied by several Kurdish national figures from various Kurdish and Syrian regions, visited the capital, Damascus, where the delegation met with the President of the Republic, Ahmed al-Sharaa.”

According to the Council’s media, “This visit came within the framework of strengthening communication and dialogue between various national forces. During the meeting, greetings were exchanged on the occasion of Nowruz, which is considered an important ethnic and national occasion for the Kurdish people.”

The meeting also addressed a range of issues of mutual interest. The attendees emphasized the importance of joint action and the consolidation of stability to serve the interests of all Syrians and enhance the prospects for a political solution in the country. The Kurdish Council noted that this visit falls within the context of ongoing political movement and efforts to bridge gaps between various parties, opening new horizons for dialogue and understanding in the coming phase.

In a related context, the Al-Hasakah Governorate account published a statement regarding a meeting held at the People’s Palace between Al-Sharaa, the Governor of Al-Hasakah, Eng. Nour al-Din Ahmed, the Presidential Envoy, Brigadier General Ziyad al-Ayesh, and the Governor of Raqqa, Abdulrahman al-Salama.

The statement read:

“A private meeting was held between President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Governor of Al-Hasakah, Eng. Nour al-Din Ahmed, in the presence of Presidential Envoy Brigadier General Ziyad al-Ayesh and the Governor of Raqqa, Abdulrahman al-Salama, at the People’s Palace. This followed the Governor’s participation—accompanied by the Commander of the Internal Security Forces in the governorate, Brigadier General Marwan al-Ali, and his deputy Mahmoud Khalil—in the ceremony of lighting the Nowruz flame in the capital, Damascus.

During the meeting, several important files concerning the region were discussed. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of addressing the file of detainees and prisoners, and working toward the ‘clearing of prisons’ by all parties involved to enhance trust and create conditions for stability.

The meeting also addressed the issue of the return of displaced persons from the cities of Seri Kaniye (Ras al-Ayn), Girê Spî (Tel Abyad), and Afrin. It was approved to form an official committee tasked with securing their safe and dignified return to their cities and villages.

On the service front, the file of education was discussed, emphasizing its importance as a fundamental pillar for social building and development. The developmental reality and ways to improve services in the eastern region, particularly in Al-Hasakah Governorate, were also reviewed. This included a focus on vital projects, most notably the piping of Tigris River water for drinking and agricultural purposes, and working to activate the Alouk water station to secure drinking water for the city of Al-Hasakah and its surroundings.

Furthermore, the necessity of developing infrastructure was emphasized, especially regarding the road network and its maintenance, due to its important role in supporting economic and service activities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, mechanisms to accelerate the implementation of the January 29 agreement were discussed, particularly regarding the merger of institutions, to enhance administrative efficiency and serve the interests of citizens.”
