The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced on Wednesday the reopening of Iraqi airspace and all airports effective immediately.
In a statement, the aviation authority noted: “It has been decided to reopen Iraqi airspace to air navigation starting today, following the stabilization of the situation and the return of conditions to normal.”
The statement added: “By virtue of this measure, all civilian flights are permitted to resume, including transit, take-off, and landing at Iraqi airports, in accordance with approved regulations and instructions.”
The Civil Aviation Authority reaffirmed its “full commitment to implementing the highest standards of aviation safety and security, in continuous coordination with relevant international organizations to ensure the smooth and efficient movement of air traffic.”
In the same context, Ahmed Hoshyar, Director of Erbil International Airport in the Kurdistan Region, told Rudaw Media Network: “We have been notified by the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority to resume our flights, and we have begun preparations now.”
Similarly, Sulaymaniyah’s Jalal Talabani International Airport stated that, based on the notification received from the Civil Aviation Authority, Iraqi airspace has been opened to air traffic as of today.
The Public Relations and Media Department at Sulaymaniyah Airport clarified that airlines are scheduled to resume their flights as soon as possible, following the reorganization of their flight schedules.
