German airline “LEAV Aviation” begins operating a weekly flight from Deir ez-Zor International Airport to Cologne as of September 1
The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport announced the launch of the first direct and scheduled flights between Deir ez-Zor and Cologne airports in Germany, starting September 1, at a rate of one flight per week.
In a statement to the Syrian news agency “SANA,” the Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Al-Husari, said that German airline LEAV Aviation will begin operating direct and scheduled flights between the two airports starting September 1.
Al-Husari noted that this step comes as part of the authority’s plan to connect Deir ez-Zor to the world, enhance its presence on the international air transport map, and open more destinations for the people of the eastern region.
He pointed out that this will be the first time in the history of commercial operations at Deir ez-Zor International Airport that it receives a scheduled flight from a European air carrier, indicating that the move reflects the development of air transport traffic in Syria and growing air connectivity with Europe.
Al-Husari explained that launching the new route expands the operations of Germany’s LEAV Aviation in Syria to include direct flights from Germany to Damascus, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor, boosting travel and communication between the two countries.
Al-Husari promised the people of Deir ez-Zor and the eastern region to “continue working to connect them to the world and open more routes and destinations so that Deir ez-Zor returns to the status it deserves,” as he put it.
The first flight by Germany’s LEAV Aviation arrived on the 29th of last month at Damascus International Airport, coming from the German city of Düsseldorf, marking the first scheduled flight between Syria and Germany in about 14 years and the initial operation of the company’s flights between the two countries.
The flight is a direct result of the civil aviation agreement signed between the Syrian and German governments on July 16, which paved the way for the resumption of flights between the two countries.
