During his visit to the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, Tobias Tunkel, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the German Foreign Ministry, met with Jihan Mohammed, an administrator in the Aleppo Center of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
The meeting, held in Aleppo, according to a statement from the SDC, addressed ways to promote a comprehensive political solution in Syria and mechanisms for consolidating the foundations of sustainable peace.
The SDC delegation gave a detailed presentation on the experience of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, as a local model seeking to achieve stability and enshrine the principles of democratic governance, according to the statement.

The meeting also discussed the March 10 agreement signed between the transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with both sides emphasizing its essential role as an institutional framework for achieving local stability and political transition. The Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh agreements were also discussed, with a review of the most prominent challenges hindering their implementation and ways to support community reconciliation efforts at the local level.
The dialogue also covered ongoing preparations for the People’s Assembly elections, with both sides stressing the importance of ensuring full and equal participation of all Syrian components and sects in all stages of the political process, including formulating national solutions, building peace, and ensuring equal rights for all citizens, as a foundation for building a unified, democratic Syria.
For its part, the German delegation affirmed its country’s concern for the issue of internally displaced persons and forcibly displaced persons, emphasizing the priority of creating safe and dignified conditions that guarantee their voluntary return to their areas of origin. This step is a pivotal element in the process of reconstruction and strengthening stability, according to the statement.
