The Kurdish Red Crescent intervenes to assist those affected, while the Sere Kaniye Displaced Persons Committee appeals for urgent aid for families in the Washokani and Al-Tala’i camps.

The humanitarian situation in the Washokani and Al-Tala’i camps in the Hasakah countryside worsened on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, due to heavy rainfall that caused dozens of tents to flood and damaged the property of families displaced from Sere Kaniye / Ras al-Ayn, coinciding with a rainstorm hitting the governorates of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.
The Sere Kaniye / Ras al-Ayn Displaced Persons Committee stated, in an urgent appeal issued by the Camp Affairs Office, that rainwater leaked into the tents and ruined bedding, blankets, and food supplies, compounding the families’ suffering amidst a lack of resources and difficulty in securing basic needs.

The committee called on relevant authorities as well as humanitarian and relief organizations to intervene urgently to provide alternative tents and necessary aid, secure water drainage systems, and protect residents from the weather conditions, stressing the need to resume the return of displaced persons to their areas after establishing security and the essential prerequisites for return.
For its part, Kurdish Red Crescent teams entered the shelters for the displaced people of Sere Kaniye in Hasakah to provide medical and logistical support, while local and international humanitarian organizations appealed for intervention to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

In a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Education in the Syrian Transitional Government announced the suspension of school classes on Thursday in all public and private schools across the governorates of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor due to the prevailing weather conditions.
The three governorates are experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and strong winds, which caused torrents to flow and blocked several roads connecting major cities with rural areas.
