The Department of Media and Information of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) confirmed on Saturday that 20 people have been killed and 123 others injured due to missile and drone strikes targeting various areas within the region. These incidents occurred amidst escalating security tensions in the area from late February until April 20, despite the ongoing truce between the United States and Iran.
In a published report, the Department stated that civilian sites, private property, and the private sector in the region were subjected to a series of attacks throughout the aforementioned period. Statistics revealed a total of 809 recorded attacks.
The report clarified that these attacks—consisting of 701 drone strikes and 108 missile strikes—directly targeted civilian locations and private interests under “baseless pretexts.”
Geographic Distribution of Attacks and Human Losses:
Erbil Governorate: The hardest hit area, recording 477 attacks (419 drones and 58 missiles), resulting in 10 deaths and 83 injuries.
Sulaymaniyah and Halabja Governorates: Recorded 235 attacks (194 drones and 41 missiles), leading to 3 deaths and 6 injuries.
Soran Independent Administration: Witnessed 68 attacks (59 drones and 9 missiles), leaving 7 dead and 34 injured.
Duhok Governorate: Subjected to 29 attacks, all of which were carried out via drones.
Severe Material Damage to the Civilian Sector
Regarding material losses, the statistics highlighted the extent of the severe damage inflicted on civilian infrastructure and personal property:
In Erbil: Material damage affected 726 citizens following direct strikes on their homes, vehicles, and workplaces.
In Sulaymaniyah and Halabja: Dozens were affected by 24 attacks that concentrated on civilian sites.
In Duhok: Private property sustained heavy damage, with private sector companies targeted directly more than 13 consecutive times.
In Soran Administration: Material damage affected 35 citizens, including homes, personal belongings, and business sites.
