Escalation of Iranian Attacks on Kurdish Opposition Party Headquarters in Kurdistan Region: Missile Strike on “Komala” in Erbil and Use of “White Phosphorus” Against PAK

The Iranian opposition party “Komala of Kurdistan” announced in the early hours of Monday that its headquarters in the Alanah Valley of Erbil Governorate had come under a new missile attack, with no immediate information available on the extent of human or material losses.

The party stated in a statement that the attack occurred at 12:20 AM, accusing Iran of carrying it out as part of a series of attacks targeting its headquarters inside the Kurdistan Region. It added that Iran has targeted its bases and headquarters with more than 91 missiles and drones since the outbreak of the conflict between it and the United States and Israel.

It added that “based on the observation and examination of the condition of 9 wounded Peshmerga in this attack, and in light of the widespread fires that broke out in the environment and the targeted site, the munitions used in this attack contained white phosphorus.” It affirmed that “this attack is not merely a crime, but a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law in times of war. The use of such munitions that lead to burning humans and destroying the environment is contrary to the principles of humanity and the international obligations of states,” calling on the international community “not to leave this crime unanswered.”

The party called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all relevant international bodies and institutions to take the necessary legal measures to punish the Islamic Republic of Iran. It indicated that “the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional government are expected to confront these violations and Iranian military attacks, in defense of the security and rights of their citizens and the safety of their environment.”

In the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, eight members of the Peshmerga forces affiliated with the Iranian Kurdistan Freedom Party were injured as a result of a drone attack that targeted a camp belonging to the party in the Darshikran area, west of Erbil, with the injuries of several of them described as critical.
