The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport in Syria has announced that it has assumed the management of Qamishli International Airport in al-Hasakah Governorate in Western Kurdistan (northeastern Syria), in implementation of the provisions of the agreement concluded between the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
According to a statement issued by the Authority, “a number of department directors within the Authority conducted a field tour accompanied by airport staff, during which they reviewed the operational, technical, and administrative conditions of the facility. They also discussed mechanisms for reactivating the airport in accordance with the highest internationally recognized standards in the field of civil aviation, in a manner that ensures the safety of operations and the quality of services provided.”
On Saturday, 21 February 2026, an official delegation from the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport arrived at Qamishli International Airport, headed by Amjad Nakhal, Deputy Head of the Authority, and including several technical and administrative personnel from various specializations. The delegation arrived aboard an aircraft belonging to Syrian Air.
The delegation also included Colonel Rami Arabi, Director of Security at Damascus International Airport, as part of security and technical coordination aimed at ensuring the completion of operational requirements in accordance with approved standards.
This development comes within the framework of implementing the provisions of the agreement of 29 January last, signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian interim authority in Syria, which resulted in a ceasefire and the beginning of an integration process.
