Ceasefire Extension Violated as Damascus-affiliated Factions Attack Villages Near Kobani and Karqi Laki
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday that Damascus-affiliated factions launched a series of military attacks on several villages in northern and eastern Syria, in a clear violation of the ceasefire extension agreement reached a day earlier through international mediation.
According to the SDF Media Center, the attacks began in the early morning hours, targeting the villages of Sheikhlar/Al-Shuyoukh, Zerik, and Al-Qasimiya west of the city of Kobani, as well as Al-Jalabiya village southeast of the city, only hours after the ceasefire extension was announced.
In a separate incident, Damascus-affiliated factions carried out an attack on the village of Qeri, affiliated to the city of Karqi Laki, using three suicide drones. The attack resulted in material damage only, with no reported casualties.
Meanwhile, continued artillery shelling on Al-Qasimiya village west of Kobani led to the death of a child and injuries to three others, constituting another breach of the ceasefire agreement, the Media Center said.

On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced that an agreement had been reached to extend the ceasefire for 15 days, under international mediation and alongside ongoing dialogue with Damascus. The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to the agreement, stressing its intention to respect the ceasefire in order to reduce escalation, protect civilians, and help create conditions for stability.
