The Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ayn IDP Committee announced on Saturday the start of notifying families included in the first batch of the return plan to their areas of origin, after increasing the number of included families to 647, with the first return batches set to depart within this week.
Earlier on Saturday, the committee stated in a press release that it is continuing its intensive meetings with relevant authorities to finalize the arrangements for the return of the displaced persons. It noted that it had received lists from the presidential delegation containing the names of over 500 families included in the first phase of return. This phase includes families from villages located between Tel Tamer and Zarkan, in addition to the southern villages of Sere Kaniye, as well as 140 families from the city center, particularly from the Al-Mahatta and Al-Abra neighborhoods.
The statement added that the committee held a meeting to discuss the mechanisms for implementing the return, while several of its members met with representatives of humanitarian organizations and the UNHCR to discuss ways to provide humanitarian and service support to the returnees, ensuring a safe, dignified, and sustainable return.
The committee reaffirmed its ongoing efforts and coordination with all relevant stakeholders to serve the interests of the displaced persons and contribute to the success of their return home.
In a separate statement issued on Saturday, the Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ayn IDP Committee, in cooperation with the Directorate of Displaced Persons Affairs, announced that it held a meeting with representatives of the United Nations. During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to provide the necessary support to prepare suitable conditions for the return of IDPs to their original areas.
According to the statement, both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination with international organizations to ensure the provision of humanitarian and service support, thereby contributing to achieving a safe, dignified, and sustainable return for the displaced persons.
