“Afrin Now” receives dozens of complaints regarding homes whose owners remain unable to reclaim them, calling for accelerated procedures to return them to their original owners.
Demands from the residents of the Afrin region to reclaim their homes are being renewed, amid the continued seizure of hundreds of houses and complaints stating that owners have been unable to regain them to date.
“Afrin Now” stated that it receives dozens of complaints from local residents regarding the ongoing seizure of their homes and their inability to reclaim them, pointing out that hundreds of houses in the region remain confiscated.
In this context, “Afrin Now” launched a campaign under the slogan #My_Home_Is_My_Right (#بيتي_حقي), aimed at shedding light on the file of seized homes, demanding expedited efforts to return them to their original owners, and ending the ongoing seizures.
The campaign called on the people of Afrin and everyone who supports the residents’ right to reclaim their homes to set the campaign image as their profile picture on social media platforms and to participate in spreading the hashtag, contributing to broader community pressure and pushing the relevant authorities to take faster and more serious steps to restore the homes to their owners.
The housing, land, and property rights issue in Afrin dates back to the aftermath of Turkish forces and allied Syrian armed factions taking control of the region in March 2018, along with the accompanying widespread displacement of residents. Human rights organizations have documented instances of home, land, and shop seizures belonging to Afrin residents since then, alongside looting and vandalism.
Additionally, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented complaints in June 2026 regarding the continued occupation of homes in the countryside of Afrin belonging to individuals who recently returned to their villages, stating that some homeowners remained staying with relatives despite submitting complaints to the concerned authorities.
