Kurdistan Region Leaders Demand Firm Stance from Baghdad, Emphasizing That Attacks Threaten the Region’s Security and Iraq’s Stability
The Kurdistan Region has witnessed a new security escalation after the office of the Regional Government Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, and the residence of a senior security official were targeted by two loitering munition drones launched from the Iranian side, in an attack that drew widespread condemnation and sparked political mobilization in Erbil.
The Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Service stated that two “Hadid-110” kamikaze drones were launched on Monday morning from the Iranian side toward the private office of the Prime Minister and the residence of the Director of the Region’s Security Agencies (“Parastin Agency”) in the Pirmam district of Erbil Governorate.
The service confirmed that the two attacks resulted in no casualties, while condemning the assaults in the strongest terms and holding the perpetrators “fully responsible for their consequences.”
For his part, Masrour Barzani confirmed the occurrence of the attack via the “X” platform, clarifying that the Counter-Terrorism Service’s investigations proved his personal office and the home of the head of the Security and Information Agency were targeted earlier today by Iranian drone strikes.

Barzani described the attacks as “reckless and unacceptable,” considering them a “dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region,” and stressing that these attempts will not deter the government from fulfilling its duties and protecting citizens.
In a separate statement, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, condemned the attacks targeting the Prime Minister’s office and the residence of the head of the Protection (Security) Agency, describing them as completely unacceptable acts and a dangerous escalation.
Nechirvan Barzani demanded that the federal government fulfill its constitutional responsibilities and obligations to preserve the country’s security and ensure that such assaults are not repeated, pointing out that protecting Iraq’s sovereignty and security is a shared responsibility that requires working toward de-escalation.
For its part, the headquarters of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani condemned the attack carried out by drones coming from the other side of the Iranian border, stressing that the Kurdistan Region has never been a party to the ongoing wars and tensions in the region.
The statement described the attacks as unjustified and aimed at destabilizing security, emphasizing that the use of missiles and drones will not resolve problems.
At the party level, the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party called on the federal government to take a firm stance and confront these violations as quickly as possible and through appropriate means.
The Political Bureau expressed regret over the targeting of Masrour Barzani’s office and the residence of the Director of the Protection Agency (Asayish) by two drones last night, at a time when the Region’s efforts are focused on sparing the region and Iraq involvement in crises.
The party considered the attack a sabotaging act that further complicates the situation and harms the development of relations, calling for it to be handled in a manner consistent with the responsibility to safeguard Iraq’s security and stability.
