Five Kurdish Youths Arrested in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud Neighborhood During Public Security Campaign

Local sources reported that public security forces carried out an arrest campaign on the night of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, targeting five young men from the residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo.

According to the information available, the arrests took place on “Ma‘rouf Mosque” Street within the neighborhood.

Four young men were detained from inside the neighborhood, one of whom is a barber, while two others were formerly members of the Asayish forces. No official explanation has been provided so far regarding the reasons for the arrests, and it has not been possible to identify the detainees for security reasons.

The information also indicates that another young man was arrested near Salah al-Din Mosque in the western part of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood; he had also previously been a member of the Asayish forces.

Sources further noted that the detainees belong to the Kurdish community in the neighborhood.

No official body has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances of the arrests or the charges against the detainees. Meanwhile, a number of residents expressed concern over the continued detentions and arrests in the area. Some sources suggested that the arrests may be related to the detainees’ failure to undergo the “social integration” (settlement) process with the security authorities in the neighborhood.

It should be noted that these arrests and detentions, described as unlawful, constitute a clear violation of freedom of expression and personal liberties. They reflect the continuation of policies of restriction and the violation of fundamental rights in areas under the control of factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.
