The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Monday that it has instructed the Ministry of Interior and the region's security institutions to work jointly with the relevant authorities in the federal government to combat corruption and hold those involved accountable, as part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the two sides.

According to a statement issued by the office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the directive comes within the framework of the "strong and ongoing cooperation and coordination" between Federal Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, as well as the relevant authorities and institutions of both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government.

The statement said that Masrour Barzani instructed the Ministry of Interior and the institutions of the Kurdistan Region Security Council to work jointly with the competent authorities in the federal government to combat corruption and bring corrupt individuals to justice.

It added that cooperation between the two sides in recent months, as part of the campaign to combat corruption and protect public funds, has resulted in legal measures being taken against a number of individuals involved in corruption, their arrest, and the recovery of large quantities of cash, gold, property, and other assets, which have been returned to the state treasury.

In this context, the statement noted that, in the latest operation of its kind, the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Regional Government handed over 358 kilograms of seized gold to the Iraqi Federal Commission of Integrity.

The Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination with the federal government to confront corruption, put an end to the waste of public funds, and reinforce integrity and the rule of law.
