Security Escalation in Suwayda: “National Guard” Accuses Damascus Government Forces of Attacks and Civilian Kidnappings

The command of the National Guard forces in Suwayda issued a statement claiming that “terrorist Damascus government forces” carried out a series of “systematic assaults” against the region’s inhabitants from yesterday morning until dawn today, including kidnappings and strikes using missiles and drones.

The statement indicated that these attacks resulted in the death of seven individuals and the injury of four others, in addition to 19 recorded cases of kidnapping. The document clarified that these incidents were distributed across several areas within the governorate.

According to the report, “three martyrs” fell in the agricultural lands of the town of Najran on the morning of Wednesday, March 18. Meanwhile, “12 cases of detention and apprehension of civilians” were recorded at what the statement described as a “General Security” checkpoint near the town of Al-Matouna.

The statement added that the area between the towns of Baka and Bard in the southern countryside witnessed the “martyrdom of four young men and the kidnapping of seven others.” This coincided with the targeting of a point in Baka by two drones; one was reportedly shot down, and one injury was recorded.

Furthermore, the statement noted that the city was subjected to shelling by several Grad missiles originating from the “occupied western countryside,” which led to the complete burning of a house and three injuries, all of whom were women.

The National Guard concluded by emphasizing that “these systematic assaults will not pass without accountability,” asserting that such actions “will only increase the National Guard forces’ determination and resolve to perform their duties in protecting the people and maintaining stability.”
