The Syrian Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the Syrian President of the Transitional Authority, Ahmed al-Sharaa, will receive Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, tomorrow, Monday, at the People’s Palace in Damascus, as part of an official visit to Syria.

According to the agency, the two sides are scheduled to hold talks addressing bilateral relations and a number of issues of common concern, contributing to the enhancement of cooperation and coordination across various fields.

SANA stated that the visit comes within the framework of ongoing communication between the two sides to discuss ways to develop relations and strengthen cooperation in service of mutual interests.

According to media outlets in the Kurdistan Region, the visit follows mediation efforts led by Nechirvan Barzani and his initiatives aimed at ending fighting and clashes, as well as stopping attacks by Syrian forces on Rojava Kurdistan.

In his meetings, Nechirvan Barzani has consistently emphasized the importance of Kurdish participation in all political, legislative, and administrative institutions in the new Syria.

As part of these efforts, the President of the Kurdistan Region has hosted Mazloum Abdi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), on several occasions, alongside delegations from Rojava Kurdistan and Syria.

Nechirvan Barzani previously met with Ahmed al-Sharaa for the first time on April 11, 2025, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
