The return of more than 800 families displaced from the countrysides of Sere Kaniye / Ras al-Ayn to their places of origin—which was scheduled for today—has been postponed to a date yet to be determined, according to a statement issued by the Sere Kaniye Displaced Persons Committee.
The committee explained that the displaced families are still awaiting the completion of necessary procedures and preparations to ensure their return to their homes, without setting a new date so far.
The postponement of the return comes a day after an attack on displaced Kurdish families who had returned to the city of Tel Abyad / Girê Spî and its countryside on October 26, 2026, after nearly seven years of displacement, in an attempt to reclaim their homes and lands and return to their original areas.
In this context, the Rights Monitor Syria platform condemned the attacks targeting the returning families, noting that incoming information and video footage document civilians—including women and children—being subjected to beatings and death threats, along with the destruction of property and burning of cars, accompanied by the chanting of insulting and racist slurs targeting Kurds and their national identity.
The platform expressed grave concern over what the families were subjected to, explaining that a number of displaced persons had headed to the Tel Abyad Area Administration building to submit official documents and proofs confirming their ownership of the homes and lands, in preparation to reclaim them and move back, before being attacked.
It added that information indicates more than one hundred Kurdish families were besieged inside the Area Directorate building, before the Internal Security Forces in the Ayn al-Arab / Kobani region evacuated them on the evening of the same day.
