Elements of the Interior Ministry affiliated with the Interim Authority entered the city of Qamishli in Rojava today and reached the security square, in a step that comes within the framework of the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government, amid an atmosphere described as positive and marked by joint coordination between the two sides.
Spokespersons from the Kurdish Asayish forces and the Interior Ministry of the Interim Authority in Syria confirmed that the entry of Interior Ministry personnel into Qamishli took place smoothly and without obstacles, within a framework of coordination and cooperation with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), which were praised for organizing the operation, while stressing the continuation of joint work and the implementation of all provisions of the agreement.
In this context, a member of the General Leadership of the Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria, Halima Mahmoud Abu Bakr, welcomed the agreement, saying:
“We welcome this agreement that took place between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian government. We are advocates of peace, not advocates of war, and we pledge that we are ready to implement the provisions of the agreement.”
She added: “Woman, life, freedom.”
For his part, a leader in the Internal Security Forces of the North and East Syria Region, Mahmoud Khalil Ali (Siamend Afrin), said:
“A ceasefire was achieved, and the second clause was the entry of forces into Qamishli and Hasakah, and this is what happened today.”
He noted that work on the remaining clauses will continue, “most notably the return of military forces from both sides to their main bases,” stressing that “so far there are no obstacles or difficulties, and we will continue in this manner.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of the Interim Authority in Syria, Nour al-Din al-Baba, explained:
“Today we entered Qamishli without any obstacles, and there was significant coordination with the Asayish. We thank them for those efforts and the warm reception.”
He added that the Interior Ministry forces “will work to take over the security buildings from the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and cooperate with them in maintaining security in accordance with the agreement.”
Al-Baba pointed out that what took place “reflected a positive atmosphere from all parties, which is what the Syrian people need today,” adding that “the Syrian people, with all their components, have prevailed, and today a new page has been opened to build Syria away from revenge, sectarian rhetoric, and hatred.”
He concluded by saying that “Syria is built by all its sons, and Hasakah will remain a beating heart for the entire country,” expressing hope that all provisions of the agreement will be implemented.
In statements carried by the official Al-Ikhbariyya channel, Interior Ministry spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba clarified on Tuesday, 3 February, that the process of entering the city of Qamishli comes within a defined timeline and a clear work program to complete the implementation of all provisions of the agreement. These include the takeover and management of vital facilities in Hasakah Governorate, such as border crossings, Qamishli International Airport, and oil fields, in order to reactivate them in service of the Syrian people.
Al-Baba explained that the deployment is taking place in coordination with the counterpart party inside the city, following a similar deployment by ministry forces yesterday in the city of Hasakah.
He confirmed that the provisions of the agreement address the issue of foreign fighters and stipulate the integration of “Asayish” cadres affiliated with the SDF into the ranks and payrolls of the Interior Ministry, welcoming all national Syrian cadres who serve the people.
At the same time, al-Baba stressed the “necessity of not using any firearms during celebrations, as this poses a threat to civilians and public and private property,” calling for “caution regarding public gatherings during the initial period, as this is very important for rebuilding trust among all Syrian components,” with celebrations to take place at a later stage.
