A meeting was held in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, bringing together Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Tom Barrack, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, and General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
During the meeting, which was also attended by Qubad Talabani, a member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, participants stressed the importance of implementing the January 29, 2026 agreement between the SDF and the Syrian government and removing the obstacles hindering its implementation, according to official media outlets of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

Participants also emphasized the necessity of respecting the rights of all components in Syria, expressing their readiness to help make Syria an active state in the region and the international community.
Earlier, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, received General Mazloum Abdi in the Dabashan area. During the meeting, which was attended by Qubad Talabani, member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the latest developments in Syria and Western Kurdistan (Rojava) were discussed.
General Mazloum Abdi spoke about his participation in the Munich Security Conference and outlined the latest developments regarding the situation in Syria.
The Commander-in-Chief of the SDF also expressed his thanks to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for its positions and support in combating terrorism.
Bafel Jalal Talabani said: “We will continue supporting Western Kurdistan until we are assured that Syria has become a state that guarantees the rights and representation of all its components, and whose government reflects the pluralism of Syrian society.”
