The Office of Coordination and Public Relations of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and the diaspora condemned what it described as a policy of collective intimidation and systematic killing carried out by the “de facto authority” and the factions affiliated with it in the Syrian coastal region and Homs province against Syrian Alawite civilians.
In a statement issued by the office on February 25, 2026, it strongly condemned these practices “in the strongest terms,” considering them to be targeting Alawite civilians in those areas.
The statement explained that the office “categorically rejects” the use of the term “remnants” by this authority as a pretext to justify the killing and intimidation of Alawites, stressing that the events of the past year have not demonstrated any evidence of what is referred to as “remnants” in the areas inhabited by Alawites. It added that members of the Alawite community have not engaged in any retaliatory violent activity in response to the violations they have been subjected to.
The statement further noted that Alawites have adhered to peaceful civil struggle in their pursuit of legitimate rights, whether by taking part in peaceful demonstrations or organizing civil sit-ins.
The statement also pointed out that this authority has recently intensified what it described as its “terrorist” policies toward Alawites, adopting an escalatory and provocative approach. It referred to what occurred in the Jableh countryside as an attempt to push them toward engaging in retaliatory violence, according to the statement, in order to obscure the anniversary of the “brutal massacres” which it said factions linked to the de facto authority committed on March 7 last year against thousands of Alawite civilians.
The statement also indicated that this authority exerted pressure on the families of the victims to extract forced testimonies aimed at concealing the truth and imposing justificatory narratives. It referred to what it said happened to Abu Alaa Nabil Youssef, who was pressured to change his statements in exchange for the handover of the bodies of the martyrs.
In this context, the office called on the international community and the countries concerned with the Syrian issue to continue exerting pressure on this authority to abide by its commitments toward the Syrian people, and to accelerate the search for a political solution in accordance with the United Nations framework, specifically United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2799, through the drafting of a constitution for a decentralized federal political system that would lead to the formation of a genuine national federal government and the holding of free elections under international supervision that ensures the representation of all components of the Syrian people and safeguards their rights and dignity.
